Mushroom Theory Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the TaskTrove application and its website (collectively, the "Service"). We respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information across our self-hosted application, licensing infrastructure, and website. By using TaskTrove or purchasing a license, you agree to the terms below.
1. Scope
This policy applies to:
- Self-Hosted TaskTrove App (Self-hosted Edition, including both the free and the paid editions)
- Hosted TaskTrove Cloud Service (not yet released)
- Website & Licensing Portal (tasktrove.io and other related domains)
2. Self-Hosted Edition
We do not access or store your project/task data if you self-host TaskTrove.
What We Collect:
- License Validation: When using the Pro edition, the app contacts our licensing servers or Keygen.sh to validate your license key. This includes:
- License key
- Machine or server ID
- IP address
- Telemetry (optional): We collect anonymous telemetry data (e.g., feature usage) and crash reports to improve the product. You can opt out of telemetry in your local settings. Crash reports may include basic device info, but never task or project data.
- Update Checks: Your browser may check GitHub for new releases.
What We Don't Collect:
- No user-created content (e.g., tasks, projects)
- No self-hosted user credentials
3. Hosted Edition
When available, our hosted version will run on our cloud infrastructure. Data stored on our servers include:
- Your task/project content
- Your account info (email, name, encrypted password)
Your Rights (Cloud Version):
- You will be able to export your data at any time
- You will be able to request account and data deletion

4. Website & Licensing Portal
To purchase a license or interact with tasktrove.io, we collect:
- Name, email, and IP address
- Payment details (via Paddle)
- Location data (used for tax and fraud prevention)
- License activity logs (kept for up to 90 days)
We retain account and transaction records as long as necessary to provide licensing and support.
5. Analytics & Cookies
- We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused web analytics tool, to monitor website traffic without tracking individual users.
- We do not currently use cookies for analytics or advertising. If this changes in the future, we will update this section and display cookie consent banner appropriately.
6. Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party services:
- Keygen.sh – License validation
- Paddle – Payment processing
- AWS SES, Zoho, Kit – Email delivery and support
Each third party is bound by its own privacy obligations and used strictly to support our operations.
7. Data Protection & User Rights
As a Canadian-based company, we aim to honor the principles of data protection laws such as GDPR and CCPA, and will respond to valid user requests in accordance with applicable laws.
You may request:
- Access to your personal data
- Correction or deletion of your data
- Cessation of marketing emails

8. Data Security & Storage
We apply industry-standard security practices to protect your data:
- TLS encryption for all communications
- Access controls and logging for account systems
- Regular audits and minimization of stored data

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this Privacy Policy.
